Kehne Ko Humsafar Hai is a webseries created by Ekta Kapoor for her streaming platform AltBalaji. The story revolves around Poonam, Rohit and Ananya.
The first season of the show was predictable and mediocre but the second season is a revelation. The show touches upon themes Indian entertainment
industry rarely does. The makers unapologetically place their characters. Rohit is still struggling with the deep rooted patriarchy he has grown up with all his life. Poonam is afraid of new relationships and self conscious. Ananya continues to be independent and self sufficient.
What is commendable is the makers approach to Rohit's character. Marrying an independent working woman doesn't change the ideology a man has grown up with. His upbringing and adulthood which were ruled by patriarchal ideologies plague his new life. He might not be the most likable character but people fail to appreciate his efforts. The story feels real and as the show is moving ahead, we see how Rohit slowly starts accepting things.
My heart leaped with joy when Poonam got a new love interest. She had been poorly exploited in the first season but here we see Poonam 2.0. She's gotten over Rohit and has a new perspective to life. Abhimanyu, played by Sayyush Nair is the character everyone likes. Poonam and Abhimanyu are a match made in heaven. But the past still haunts her. Her inhibitions about dating a younger man serve as a constant of contemplation for her. But slowly, she gets comfortable and her inhibitions start haunting lesser.
Ananya is the only character getting minced in the family drama around her. But she progressively moves ahead in her career. Her professional life is as its peak. On the personal life front, there is constant trouble in the paradise largely due to Rohit.

Bani played by Pooja Banerjee faces problems in her marriage which makes her return to her dad's house. Bani has held her shields up for too long. She slowly starts becoming comfortable with Ananya and is accepting of her as her dad's wife.
Among all this, a neglected side plot, Cherry, Ananya's best friend who is facing self image issues after her breakup is a well thought and crafted plot.
With all that said, Kehne Ko Humsafar Hai is right now the most progressive family drama. It's most definitely worth a watch.
